Manchester United Coaching Crisis

Back in 2013, Sir Alex Furgeson, the legendary manager of Manchester United coached his final game for the club. In all the Scotsman coached 1500 games for the club starting in 1986 and his success was never put in question when looking back on his career. Winning over 38 trophies in his spell with the club Sir Alex is held as one of the greatest managers in soccer history. Sir Alex left the club with who he thought was the best man for the job, fellow countryman, David Moyes. Moyes signed a 6-year contract with the team. That was a mistake. Moyes was in charge for under a year before he was sacked. Since then United has had 4 managers, including a short spell by Ryan Giggs as caretaker manager, and none of them have lasted a full three seasons. This holds true for the latest manager to get the boot, Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese manager is another all-time great having success in 3 leagues in Europe, Serie A in Italy, the English Premier League, and La Liga in Spain. Despite the success from previous clubs and even success in his first two seasons at Man Utd Mourinho was given the sack in December after a run of poor performances. But now, who do United turn to? For the time being, Ole Gunnar Solskaer, a former player at the club, has taken the role of caretaker manager. Solskaer was a superb player for the Red Devils in his time at the club, scoring 91 goals, the most famous of which won United the Champions League in 1999 and sent them on to an unprecedented treble of Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup titles. Is Solskaer the long-term option the club needs though? The Norwegian has very little managerial experience, with the only notable club he has managed being Cardiff City in a stint that lasted less than a year. Many fans question if the club is too big for him to take on permanently, but others are quick to fire back with the success Solskaer has had in his short reign as manager. Solskaer was named Manager of the Month in the Premier League for January and has yet to lose a game for the club. Many fans want Ole to stay until the end of the season and then hire Mauricio Pochettino from Tottenham in the summer. Pochettino has been in the Premier League for 5 years now so he has some considerable experience in England and in Champions League but many doubters point to his empty trophy cabinet. United fans expect trophies and failing to bring them in can be seen as a big factor in deciding the next manager for a team of United's reputation. These two managers seem to be the two options that will be considered when the time to decide the next manager comes. Do you take the club legend with less experience based on his short but successful run? Or do you choose a more experienced manager who has failed to win any trophies with his club? It seems to be a divided opinion among United faithful, but regardless of who is chosen the shadow of David Moyes failed contract still looms over the club and will until this summer when it finally expires.
